PM Oli called Mahato to say thank you for opening the blockade. Sure, he might have taken the initiative (according to this report by Setopati), but the fact is even the protestors, and mostly the madhesi citizens, workers/traders are fed up with this prolonged blockade that will really yield not much to them even if all the demands are met. I guess their boss (Laloo, Sushma and Modi) gave them a go-ahead to release this blockade. This guy says Madhesh andolan is in 2nd phase now and if their demands aren't met, they will go to 3rd phase where a million Madhesi/Bihari will enter Kathmandu and continue the "andolan." http://demrepubnepal.blogspot.com/ This guy doesn't have much credibility as he is supporting C.K. Raut and the separatist movement, but still the nerve to threaten is simply cringe worthy.

I read that some think tanks, like Cato, intellectually took side with the move by Obama administration to go after the root cause in El Salvador, Honduras when the central american refugee crisis hit epic proportion last year. Forget about short term, eventually White House accepted that there might not even be a long term solution to El Salvadore, Honduras, Sinaloa problem. Essentially, I think, they gave up.
Needless to say, Bihari culture is under-privileged. A view from outside clearly sees that Madhesi challenge is to balance between fight for the rights and deeply flawed cultural practices like dowry and caste system. There might not be a long term solution for el salvador, honduras etc or is it that there might not be a solution that's in the national interest of USA ?
All those countries problems are related to the drug problems in USA and decades of US foreign policy. US single handedly turned Korea in to a modern country, but it doesn't want its neighbors prosper all because of geopolitics. Big brother attitude like India is showing now.
